Hot on the heels of Carrie's Manolos, is the much loved trend we touched on about four years ago - the corsage. Do you remember the lily hairclips through the updos or the glittery roses we snapped up at Portmans? Well I do, and I loved it so I'm thrilled to see its reappearance for this coming season.
The first of my plans for the corsage is to liven up my denim jacket collection. I say collection, because denim jackets never wear out and need tossing, they simply multiply in my wardrobe. This is not such a bad thing because of the 20% of my clothing that I wear 80% of the time, the denim jacket would be a regular contender. Having said this, they do take on a whole new persona with a corsage pinned to the breast pocket. Miss Selfridge's version below is in keeping with the casual nature of denim and so this is the style I shall be seeking out. If you're feeling the creative urge, artsycrafty babe has an easy to follow tutorial for you to create your own.
Then again, if you don't have the time or inclination, Etsy has a multitude to choose from, and as they are all handmade, chances are you won't being seeing yours on anyone else.
The felted daffodil
and the rhinestone peony
are just a couple of examples of the exquisite corsages Etsy has on offer.
Don't be limited to jackets as you explore this trend. Corsages worn with a skinny belt at the hip of slim line pants look very elegant for evening as Wallis have constructed. You can create this look very easily by purchasing some black evening pants (all stores have them) and a skinny belt. Top your outfit off with a plain black camisole or tank and attach the corsage. You will be a vision of slenderness and give new meaning to the term rosehip.
And speaking of tanks this is how the London girls have been sporting their corsages this summer.
There is no doubt, that wearing a corsage will draw extra attention to your girls - and if you would rather divert that attention elsewhere there are still other corsage options open to you. Add one to your clutch a la ASOS
or if you prefer something a little more understated, these Alexander McQueen heels might be your preference.
Whichever way you go, wearing a corsage will certainly make you feel a bit girly, and that may be just the boost you need while you scrub the soap scum off the shower recess.
