Summer Scarves
October 15th 2008 11:06
A slight contradiction of terms, the Summer Scarf, really is the go right now. We tend to think of wrapping ourselves in scarves to ward off the winter chills, but tossing a floaty floral around one's neck to keep the sun at bay is the summer equivalent. You will have no trouble locating a scarf as the accessory departments of every fashion store are bursting with them. There are no rules either - long, short, silky, paisley, tasseled, whatever - you just need to keep the out fit underneath very simple. Mostly worn with plain tanks and tees -and of course the staple jean.
This is one trend you may not even have to shop for, as I'm sure like me, you have a ton of scarves buried deeply to be unearthed for this coming season. For those who simply must have a 'new' one, go hunt down a vintage piece on ebay or the thrift shops. This one is up for auction on ebay - a retro Lanvin.
You may think I'm nuts, but I actually love the vintage souvenir scarves of the 1950's and 60's like these:
It's amazing how a lightweight scarf really does boost an outfit, and turn an every day t-shirt look into something quite chic.
Even the knit scarf has its place this summer, so long as the colours are light and the fibres are cotton, linen, silk, rayon etc.
I have to admit, I have shopped and this is my new SS - only $9.95 at Sportsgirl.
Happy draping.
