Tie One On

Are you still basting the roast and shelling the peas in your everyday gear? Is it tedious? Well then, it's time you got into the latest domestic fashion trend exploding in kitchens across the globe - the apron revival. It began as a vintage craze, the new domestic goddess buzzing around the cooktop in a frilly, ric rac trimmed 1950's inspired pinney. Pattern companies rereleased vintage designs and op shops were scoured for the genuine article. Now things are getting serious and aprons are being designed in line with current looks (the high waisted Havana Nights apron above as an example).
If it's Sex and the Kitchen you are after then Olive Juice % Co's The Betty might fit the bill. The bodice detailing and corset style lace up back certainly says 'kitchen wench'. Kim, (OJ &Co designer) claims that it is the husbands that have applauded this design.
Stylish aprons and denim seem to be made for each other. Jeans are hip and laidback, they are happy for it to be all about the apron. Mary's apron above encapsulates this, but perhaps an entirely different look could be achieved if it was simply worn with knickers.
If you are feeling ready to embrace the apron trend, head on over to Angry Chicken's apron site for books, galleries, free patterns and all things aprony. In addition, my favorite US fashion store Anthropologie has a massive range, that are simply too good to hide away in the kitchen. Viteen, designergirl of Practically Necessary will even custom make for you.
So, with Summer ahead, I'll leave you with this image, all you need to do is imagine which berries you will be gathering for the pie.
