What the Foho?
August 22nd 2008 11:48
The fashion buzz word that you're going to be hearing for quite some time is Foho. No, not Boho, apparently that's over now, but Foho. The term, coined by UK Telegraph journalist Clare Coulson, basically describes the new take on Boho, as a fusion of seventies folk with edgy current trends. Clare declares, 'Foho is about a more understated, eclectic mix, fusing classic Boho elements - Seventies silhouettes, crochet trims and trippy hippie prints - with more subtle folk pieces, such as washed-out denim and traditional embroideries. Crucially, it also throws in something modern like a great big shiny It-bag or über-cool trainers. It's cooler and far more authentic than Boho and owes more to the original folk look of the Seventies.' Got that? Ok if you're floundering a little, let's take a look at some of the key elements of Foho, so that you're clear about what to shop for.
Embroidery
lots of it, all colours and on anything ie peasant tops, dresses, tunics and even sandals.
Maxi dresses
with an emphasis this season on colour blocks, tie dye and batik. Go here to see the range that Victoria's Secret currently have.
Handcrafted Jewellery
beautiful stones and long layered pendants are key features.
Keep in mind the faded denims (and I'm sure our wardrobes can supply these already) and you have the Foho look nailed.! What will be dispensed with (thank goodness) are cowboy boots, long tiered skirts and low slung belts - I think we are all over this look.
For further inspiration look to Sienna Miller, Kate Moss and Kirsten Dunst as they are all masters (mistresses?) of pulling the Foho style together.
I'll leave you to digest this while I slip on my Moho (moccasins) and scoff some Choho.
